Friends and colleagues gathered Thursday night at the picturesque Black Point Inn in Scarborough to toast another successful program year for the
Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Maine Chapter and celebrate the Beacon Awards.
The Awards, honoring the marketing and design work of SMPS member firms, as well as architecture/engineering/construction (A/E/C) firms throughout New England, was the chapter’s first awards banquet since 2007.
Woodard & Curran was the evening’s big winner, taking home four of the seven awards for Corporate Identity, Internal Communications, Online Communications and Newsletter.
JSA Inc. and SMRT were also honored for their creativity; JSA for their tongue-in-cheek “Fortunately Not Our Brand” Holiday Piece and SMRT for their 125th Anniversary Promotional Campaign. GEI Consulting’s Corporate Brochure took
home the People’s Choice award, voted on by attendees during cocktail hour.
The final award went to incoming Treasurer and Social Committee Chair Allison Sovetsky of Woodard & Curran, who was awarded the chapter’s Leadership Award for her substantial commitment to the chapter; a fitting tribute as Allison planned the evening’s entire event almost single-handedly.
As attendees enjoyed after-dinner coffee and strawberry shortcake, outgoing President Katy Hews of Marketivity passed the torch to President-Elect Jennifer Andrews of Woodard & Curran. When SMPS programming returns after a much-deserved summer break, it will be with the renewed enthusiasm and focus embraced by Hews and the 2009-2010 Chapter Board during what could only be described as trying times for the A/E/C industry. 2010-2011 promises to be an exciting year for SMPS.
