SMPS Holiday Party Raises Funds for ACE Mentor Scholarships
Despite a record high temperature of 68 degrees, holiday spirit was in abundance as members and friends gathered for the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Maine chapter’s annual holiday party held December 3rd at The Danforth Inn.

Mingling guests sipped a cup of “Good Cheer,” a festive champagne cocktail designed for the occasion, and enjoyed a history of The Danforth as told by SMRT Principal Paul Stevens. The recently renovated Danforth, once a private residence, has had many incarnations in its 150-year history, but it was Stevens’ great-grandfather – renowned architect John Calvin Stevens – who first renovated the structure back in 1901. The evening was a fitting tribute to his legacy and SMRT’s 125th Anniversary.
New to the event this year was a silent auction benefiting both SMPS Maine and the ACE Mentor Scholarship Program. Thanks to the combined generosity of prize donors and bidding party-goers, the event was a great success on all accounts, with the proceeds to be shared by SMPS and ACE.
ACE, an acronym for Architecture, Construction and Engineering, aims to increase awareness of career opportunities in these fields to high school students through mentoring, and provide scholarship opportunities for those interested in following an ACE career path.
SMPS Maine has been an ACE Program supporter since its early 2009 inception in Maine. In that short time, partnerships with WBRC Architects & Engineers and Consigli Construction have already produced four ACE graduates, a number supporters seek to grow.
